Do you need to lose weight, spath? Just say no...
It does say to drink water before eating, or to have soup or broth with the meal. If you eat a lot of veg, there's also a fair amount of water in them.

If I need to crash diet ( I can lose 7lbs+ in a week easily) I just drink a pint of water before and after every meal, and as much throughout the dayas is reasonable. Over the week I have 2 days where I eat normally ( that's anything that isn't too crazy either amount wise or type of stuff, just normal food), 3 days where I only eat soup or salad and 2 days where I eat nothing (quite hard as I''m a type one diabetic so need to be mindful of that too). You can do it in any order, mix it up however you like, you don't generally feel hungry or miss anything and the weight just drops off.
But then I guess it goes on again just as easily, kval.
Some people just struggle to lose weight due to complete lack of willpower and obsession with food - that was me!
It does, cloverjo, I just tend to know when I need to be half a stone lighter than is my natural weight, and as long as I have a week's notice I can do it, I actually really like food but I do need to mind my weight because I'm diabetic and it's easier to put on than take off sadly :/

Stairs, Spath. I'm not long back from holiday and the hotel had loads of stairs. I can't believe the difference in my legs.
pasta...you are a great Dr Fung fan.

"My #1 hack for weight loss
Just don’t eat. In other words, intermittent fasting. It’s natural. It’s free. It’s simple. You can do it anytime, anywhere. You can do it for as long as you want (if you have excess weight to lose).

Does it work? Of course. If you don’t eat, you’ll lose weight. Guaranteed."

That is not rocket science and he states the obvious, BUT Islay above says it all..............the human mind does not often agree or comply with science and that is why Medicine is an Art and not a science.

I'm a fast and feast. Always have, I don't eat for the sake of it, only when I'm hungry and stop as soon as I'm full. I've never been over weight.

Better start with the crunches :-)
I can put foodstuffs in any order on the plate; still going to eat it all. Eat your vegetables first then if you get full then you'll feel so guilty that an animal died for your meal and that you might just waste it, that it'll ensure you force down the rest so you don't feel so guilty. Drink fluids at the start of the meal, want less food at the time; but go looking for snacks in an hour's time.

"We don’t usually eat the French Fries first and then followed by the salad." We sure don't; we don't add pet food to the plate at all ! Abominable eating establishments try that one because they can't be arsed to cook vegetables properly.

"There is a lag between starting a meal and feeling fully satiated." Probably is, but since it's psychologically difficult to throw good food away we want to know the correct portion size at the start not feel bad mid-meal.

...

Yeah I'm sure it's all good advice, including the having a magic spell to ensure sufficient hours of good sleep, and not eating. Unsure it fits well with me though.

;-)
Thank you. Very helpful. I've cut down a lot in sugary food.
Salad isn't pet food. It's lovely. Do you eat any salad stuff, OG? Tomatoes?
I don't count tomatoes as pet food. It's a decent enough fruit. (Not that all fruits are edible.)
I just cut out the snacks - I would eat chocolate buttons, crisps, kiplings cakes and blueberry muffins and takeaways quite a lot. These were all bought as part of the normal weekly shopping by default. I would eat them when i was peckish.
I still have the craving for an ice cold pack of cadburies buttons but if there isnt any in tthe fridge then the craving soon goes.
My #1 would be - Do not trust the human mind to be able to resist - just do not buy junk food in the first place.
I am currently 2 stones lighter since January this year. BMI currently 24.5
I don't buy snacks or eat biscuits. Now my sons are back living with me they buy them for their packed lunches. I've never been in the habit of eating them so it doesn't occur to me to snack on them. I like ice cream.
