I am writing to a neighbours daughter because ,my neighbour, her mother ,has dementia.
I would like to start my letter "I hope you and your mother are well" but with the knowledge that her mother is bed ridden this seems clumsy.
Any other suggestions please?

My mother was in a similar situation and lived in a maisonette. The neighbours approached me directly but I would have been happy with something like "I have been a neighbour of your mother for some time and though we were not close she is a nice person and I thought of her as a friend. I just wanted to let you both know that you are in my thoughts and if I can be of any...

I think it depends on what you want to say to the daughter. Does she live with her mother? How well do you know the daughter?

Oh Thank you that is exactly what I was looking for.

Only spoken to the daughter once and she is very nice. Mother lives in the downstairs flat to me and so we used to sometimes chat but not a close friendship; that said I did class her as a nice person and friend.
