I enjoy having the doors in the house open...especially in the back garden and when it's hot. But next doors cat keeps coming into the kitchen and going through the bin and even taking food off the side.
I love my neighbours and they have 4 lovely kids but this really shouldn't be my problem.....should it?
What would you do?

Cats do what they do, there's no controlling them
I would talk nicely to my neighbours and get a water pistol. My Mum had this problem snd the cat not only trashed the bin, it brought in fleas
I'd just get my own cat and let it chase off the intruder. (Actually I've got 4 of the little monst . . . er, I mean darlings, and they tend to ensure that no other cats come near!)

A more practical solution for you though might be to get a small water pistol ;-)
I have a cat who is a food thief and comes home with cake, I wouldn't have a problem if a neighbour wanted to use a water pistol to deter him - try talking to the cat's owners.

The problem is, most of the time i'm sitting in the lounge watching tele and the cat comes through the conservatory into the kitchen. I either don't hear it or hear it when it's too late. I'm having to shut the door and windows in the conservatory to stop it coming in and it's getting swealtering out there.
You need to set up to deliberately catch the cat.
Give it a squirt every time you see it.
I bought a cheap, long, net curtain from Wilko to keep out flies from entering my back door, but still letting air in.
I weighed it down with oddments of screws etc, and it works pretty well.
I appreciate that a cat, much as I love them, is a heftier and probably more determined intruder than a fly, but maybe worth a shot?

I have a .22 air rifle. Any good?

@jennykenny....should I have to do this in my own home?
I wouldn't advise shooting it to be fair, or are you joking ??
A catapult and wet cotton wool balls is fun.
HEALTH WARNING: Cat owners worship their animals and woe betide anybody who upsets their little darlings.
Have you ever thought that, only for the cat, you might have other little, less welcome, intruders sneaking in!
don't leave food on the side and buy a bin with a lid ...
Why is having Four lovely kids a problem .The moggy seems the problem .Wet concrete seems a good idea a sorta let the cat put its foot in it .Only kitten really .
