Hello. I'm very aware that I am probably asking an unreasonable question but please if you can give me an idea. I'm trying to sell a house. It's 400 miles away from where I currently live and work and it's been rented out of 15 years. Maintained to a good standard. Prior to sale I want the whole house painted. Can't go there to meet people so relying on estate agent to advise and they use certain firms. It's four bedroom three double one single. Lounge dining room hall and stairs. One bathroom and kitchen. About 1100 square feet. Any idea of what this should cost or could cost would be great. Many thanks

Would ask the estate agent to get at least three quotes from local firms and then check them out yourself on Trust a Trader or one of the other trade rating sites. Make sure you get a quotation and not an estimate.

My friend got a few rooms done in her house and other bits and bobs - he charged £100 per day - from 9.00 - 5.00pm

Thanks all so far. I have quotes and they are way higher than I had expected. I was hoping someone would have had this done and could give me a figure. Ie totally empty and has been cleaned so wallpaper I was anticipating about £2000 maybe a little more. Also it's not London.
so wallpaper - do you mean no wallpaper.

if it was stripped like of wallpaper - I could have done it for you - I loved paint my living room last year
Ask if anyone could recommend a good, reasonable painter and decorator in the area the house is in. Then contact them and ask them to quote. Then you will cut out the estate agents.
I live in a rented house, and we just redecorated ourselves, with the landlord paying for the cost of the paint (that they were happy for us to choose ourselves). For the whole house, the bill came to £98. We love it, and loved doing it and choosing our own style, and the landlords have a freshly decorated house for less than £100! Everyone wins!
No decent firm will give you a quote without visiting the property. Can you not contact anyone who lives nearby and ask for their advice?
^^

Sorry Sammo, didn't see your post.
I would just sell it as it is. The extra you got on the sale price would probably not cover the cost of the decorator painting it. Most people want to put their own touches and decoration on a house they buy and may well repaint it in the colour and style they prefer anyway.
