I have a large Excel Spreadsheet of my music tracks, and there is a column for genres - Northern, Rock and so on.

How do I interrogate the Spreadsheet to group any one genre together on a spreadsheet - all the Northern tracks together, and so on?

Sort A-Z could work (obviously highlight all the information so you don't just sort the column).

There's a more sophisticated way of doing it, I think, but I'd have to google that myself.
You can also set up filters; the data is not reordered but the genre, when selected from a drop-down list, remains visible while all other genres are hidden for the duration that the filter is active.

If you add a filter (choose the column and then press the icon which looks like a funnel). You can then group by any of the headings you have, at that point you can copy and paste the whole selection onto a new sheet. Hope this helps...
Jim's method is certainly the easiest. Highlight the whole sheet by clicking in the top left corner, select sort - custom sort - select the column that has your genres in and it will reorder alphabetically. It will stay like that until you changed it.
The filter is the better method since it can be applied to each column and you can fine-tune the results by filtering further columns.
Andy! All those years with BT and you didn't learn how to use a spreadsheet. If only to do your overtime :-)

I did know, but it's a year since I left, and I have simply forgotten!!!

I never needed a spreadsheet to record overtime, that was done elsewhere.
