Sorry to ask this, i know it might make people uncomfortable but you guys have never let me down.

For the past couple of months i've been getting thursh quite frequently. I got it after being on antibiotic a couple of months ago and that was the first time i've had it.. now it seems to keep coming back and driving me mad!

until now i've been treating it with canestan , do you think i should maybe go to the doctor?

thnx you guys.

If it's not clearing up after several weeks of using an over the counter treatment, then yes, see your doctor. If you read the label and speak to the chemist, they'll both tell you the same.

Do you use any kind of intimate wash or deodorant - femfresh or some such? Someone once told me that using this stuff actually washes away the good bacteria as as well the bad, so they don't actually do you much good. I've noticed my cystitis tends to worsen when I use Femfresh, so I've stopped using it.

I did also hear that live yoghurt is a good treatment, but I've never known anyone who's used it, so I'm not sure whether you're supposed to eat it or smear it on/in, lol.
yes...if it's recurring, take a trip to your doctor...i'm sure he/she will be able to prescribe something to help.

in the meantime, check this out...

Definately go to your GP - you may need a strong course of anti fungal treatment if the usual Canestan etc isn't clearing it up.

I agree with saxy_jag about the other stuff too - don't use any soaps/wash etc in that area, also avoid using bubble baths etc as this can irritate it - for some reason I always used to get it if I used any Imperial Leather products in the bath!!....also only wear cotton underwear and loose fitting clothes in natural materials - nothing makes thrush worse than a swearty crotch *ahem*!!

As for the yougurt, I was told if you dip a tampon in it and then insert as normal, only leave it for about 30 mins but repeat every few hours

Hope this helps

Hi turkey,

Although I'm repeating what saxy-jag and petes_dragon have said, it must be right!! Lol

Doctor recommended live (bio) yoghurt once when taking antibiotics, to eat as well as on affected area. Also suggested Aqueous cream to wash with and cotton undies. I think that like other medicines the prescription Canesten is a stronger dose than over the counter ones.
The pessary prescribed goes right up to the affected area.

Good luck, I sympathise with you xxx

thats so weird coz we do have imperial leather wash in the shower right now, and we dont normally use that one.. myabe that isnt helping.

thnx guys

Are you using the cream or the one off dose that you put in with the applicator, that is the better one. Stay away from soap altogether or if you must use something there use a soapfree wash ... personally I think water is best.
Diflucan is a good oral medication to take - costs about 12 quid i think but you only need one and it clears up in a day or two - can get it on prescription too.
