I was trying to delete a pile of recent messages, and accidentally marked all as unread. All 6,627 messages (!).
Yes, I know I should have been deleting them as I went along but now I have a total nightmare.
Spent the last fifteen minutes deleting them all by hand. Still in the 6,000 range, by a long shot. Is there any way, short of deleting everything, that I can speed up this process.
It is insane.

Just logged on to my outlook account to check :)

In my inbox, right at the top where it says "focused" and "other" - above this is, you have, "new"; "delete all" and mark all as read".
I'm assuming "delete all" will delete everything in the folder that you're in :)

If, for some reason, you don't want to delete everything in the selected folder, to the left of "focused" is a tick box ,"select all items in view" which will help speed up the deleting process.
The tick box might not be visible - you need to hover the cursor over it (just to the left of focused) for it to show up.
What exactly were you trying to do? Marking them all as unread doesn't stop you from deleting them in whatever way you originally planned.
you can delete blocks of them at one go by clicking on the tick box of the first, then holding down the shift key and clicking on the bottom one; that highlights all the ones in between and you can delete them. (You can unclick the occasional one you want to keep.)
Just tick the box next to emails and then click delete at the top of the page.
If your messages are not consecutive in a block, you can hold down the Ctrl key and "click" to highlight the ones you wish to remove and then press "delete."
