Climbing French Beans

Normally, I would grow these from seed but this year I bought some from a garden centre which had been grown in pots, approx 4-5 in 3 inch pots.
When I tried to separate the plants, I discovered that the roots were too tangled to separate, without causing any damage.
I decided to plant them in clumps to avoid any damage and allow them to find their own way.
Anyone else succeeded in growing in this way ?

You'll probably get very small beans growing them in clumps. Have you thought of sowing the seed straight into the soil?

I did last year, but the ones that were separate were definitely stronger and produced more beans. If there's a particularly weedy one, pluck it out and don't worry about the roots so much.

Thats a good idea Melv,
I'll plant a few beans to follow on after the others, to extend the harvest.
