Are we (as a site) becoming dull, trivial and boring?

I agree anthro, some abers start a thread and then get nasty, sarcastic and unnecessary answers, but if the poster of the thread dates to complain, the answer is usually along the lines of 'this is a public site and I will post what I like when I like' blah, blah, blah! Very childish in my opinion and may put some off from starting a thread.

sorry if i upset anyone but if i start a thread up i'm not trawling through 100s of other threads to make sure no one has already started up the same subject ...as certain people love to tell you there's already a thread ...so what!
It takes seconds to search, and if the question hasn't been asked before or for a while then fine, it's a reasonable thing to do

When I said it is very repetitive, I wasn't meaning in the sense that someone may start a thread on a topic that has already been done by someone else. I was meaning that some seem to just use the site to express their view on the same subject over and over again.

I don't understand what is meant by saying a topic "having already been done"; it sounds as if it is all finished and dusted.
Approaches to the same subjects can be changing on a daily basis due to events, whether it's immigration, Brexit or (God help us) the royal wedding.
Khandro, I think what Garaman is saying is that certain posters trot out the same opinions ad nauseam.
If a new thread on the same subject is started, of course folk will renew the same arguments rather than let it look as if they'd admitted they were wrong. That's inevitable.

Isn't the question less about opinions and more about asking for practical advice that has already been covered ?
OG, I am talking about the posters who trot out the same opinions no matter what the subject of the thread is.
quite right, dannyk, some of us warned this would happen if Brexit won the vote.
Maybe its because more than a few questions degenerate into arguments.
No they don't.
Yes they do !
Anyway, my dad's bigger than your dad.
What annoys me is when I happen to create a headline to a thread which doesn't if fact ask a question.

Then some on here will be quick to ask,"what's your question".

Then when I do ask a particular question in my headline i.e. "does one think........?" or "do you agree?" the same will answer with either a just 'YES' or 'NO'.
be more creative, aog. Ask ""What better system could we have to deal with X?" or something like that
AOG - // Then when I do ask a particular question in my headline i.e. "does one think........?" or "do you agree?" the same will answer with either a just 'YES' or 'NO'. //

The question 'Do you agree' does invite a one-word response.

If want to know the thought behind an opinion, why not ask for it in that way - "What are your thoughts on this?' or similar.
