Jerusalem has existed at least 3000 years longer than Islam yet they seem very attached to it. If I started a religion today and claimed, say, Paris has some sort of connection, then I'd be rightly, laughed off the continent so what's occurring?

TTT , the 3 Monotheistic religions Judaism , Islam and Christianity all 'stem from the same seed'. Buddhism is NOT a monotheistic religion.

ok spathy I'll put you out of your misery, you are talking about the Abrahamic religions, not the polytheist ones, ie most of them.
They seem very attached to my home town here in the UK also, sadly.
Oh dear Spungle, so I guess this bit will apply to your home Town then (along with quite a bit of the rest of the UK) as we have had a jihad declared against the West for some time:

"Once land has been reclaimed from the House of War by divinely ordained jihad that land is forever Muslim land."
//They do. They steam from the seed of thought... They also all correlate//
No they don't Spath. You need to educate yourself on religious history a bit more.
vetuste_ennemi has given the answer.

Spath, I regard Buddhism as a religion - but that's a subject for another time and place.
Just another thing that should be borne in mind. For the past 1500 years give or take until the creation of the State of Israel in 1948 (actually today is the 70th anniversary I believe), when the Palestinians (the Muslims) were basically booted out, Jerusalem was Islamic – another reason for them to retain an interest and, being honest, no real surprise that they're miffed.
