Hi,i recently asked about travel insurance companies and got great advise on them but i`m wondering with my EHIC card and i travel very light with no expensive gadgets if it`s worth taking out insurance,what do Answerbank think ? It`s a week in Spain

EHIC will get you treated - but it won't get you home if you miss your flight (or need special transport) because of an illness - those are the important bits that you need to buy cover for - or make sure you can afford yourself.

Yes...take out insurance, you'd be a fool not to.
I've had pretty recent health issues and declared everything and my insurance was only £30 for two weeks away.

in addition, there are some clinics that wont treat you until you show them your insurance
If you were in any doubt, OH had a bad leg fracture in Portugal. The EHIC meant that there were no medical bills for the operation and the 3 week stay in hospital.

The insurance paid for my hotel bills for over a week, a nurse to fly out to Portugal and the cost of special flight arrangements for us all to travel back to the UK. I reckon that would have cost a pretty penny.
