Can anyone tell me if they know whether full body strength has been regained after a stroke has occurred how long after.
My aunt had a stroke over a year ago and is confined to a wheelchair, she can if she tried walk with a stick.
I was so sure she would be more mobile than this after a year. Also she is very depressed which does not help.
We do leg exercises and water exercise.

Woofgang is a retired Occupational Therapist :) I do keep up a bit with latest research. Sorry but i don't have much to say that is encouraging. Thanks so very much Woofie, you have more or less confirmed what I thought, my aunt is not gonna be leaping around anytime soon. I will keep up the exercises both physical and mentally.
Hi Sharon! Usually, most improvement after a stroke happens within the first 6 months of having it. Though, not all people are the same. Older people can still be recovering well into a year after stroke. But, you must encourage physical therapy! There are many videos on YouTube that demonstrate some exercises, everyone has hope! Also, try to push on the fact that even though some things are different, however long it may be, she can still enjoy her life. Be there for her as best as you can! Best wishes, Addie. x
Wolfgang is right, and sadly it is now time for adjustment and adaptation to optimise what she can do now. However if she is clinically depressed that is a separate treatable issue and with an improvement in mood she may be more willing to try things that could improve her quality of life. On a different level it is important that the simple things like getting her hair styled regularly and if she used to have manicures, eyebrow tidying etc go on, it's the old idea of look good, feel better and might help her feel that she is still worth it.
