I'm thinking that anyone found guilty of such attacks should face a minimum of 20 years.

The reason I believe this is appropriate is that point of these attacks is to permanently affect the victim, but not to kill them - just to ruin the rest of their lives.

We need a good hard look at all sentences for attack, particularly with a weapon. Acid, knife or a gun should not matter and I would go along with the 20 years min for all the above as long as it is that, nothing off and no parole. A violent attack is a violent attack, the weapon is just what that person chose. It shouldn't matter if it was a gun, acid or a knife... or anything else for that matter!
yes, 20 years, is about right, if they actually do 20 years.
I agree with the previous posts. It's a truly despicable crime. The longer sentence the better in my opinion.

Also the sentencing\parole policy needs looking at in general for violent crime. If it's going to cost more money to keep dangerous people locked up, it's still worth it.
anthro, I take your point but I do think some consideration needs to be given for the effect on the victim's future. A knife injury can fully recover but these nasty acid attacks are intended to effect the victim for life and as such the sentence should reflect that.
The boyfriend of Ferne McCann (reality star) is serving 20 years for such an attack. I personally would prefer 30.
