I think they have a point. This isn’t supposed to be honouring the Catholic faith, but using it as a sexualised fashion fetish.

They wouldn’t get away with do the same for Russian Orthodox, Judaism, or Islam.

Fashionistas are unlikely to be strict adherents of any faith, so they are equally unlikely to understand what the fuss is about.

Personally, if my faith was so fragile that it could be outraged by a few people aping its costumes, I would consider it a faith not worth having.

If people are outraged, then so be it, but in the scheme of things, it's hardly worth getting upset over. I think most Catholics would simply shrug and ignore it - which is the best way to treat most fashions.
Most I know have said 'So what'.
"Fashionistas are unlikely to be strict adherents of any faith, so they are equally unlikely to understand what the fuss is about. "

True but the question is "Would they do a similar Islamic theme?"
Who'd a thunk that in the days when a sense of humour wasn't frowned upon those Vicars and Tarts parties were perceived as fun.

YMB, //"Would they do a similar Islamic theme?" //

No, they wouldn't - and if they did I'm guessing that many of those who shrug this off would have a very different viewpoint.
I suspect so too Naomi.
I can't really get worked up about it one way or the other. It does seem a bit crass, but not being religious, it doesn't bother me.

I also agree with Naomi's last point above.

The question of whether these people would produce a similar show based on, for example, Islam, is entirely academic, and therefore meaningless.

I think the answer to that question is clear - they would not, based on the fact that fundamentalists have form for a proactive response to offence, and they are seriously chippy about people not taking their fait seriously.

But this is not about Islam, so that's not a relevant part of the debate.

Actually, Islam was mentioned in the OP, along with other religions, so part of the debate - should the contributor see fit
If they wouldn't it'd likely be because of the perception that some other religions have the type of fanatics who can't control unjustified anger and would possibly assault or worse those involved.
It is often the case that Christianity is the acceptable punchbag for people who want to be disrespectful to religion, but also virtue signal their tolerance for other cultures.
Either that or they just don't want to end up like the editors of Charlie Hebdo.

The offended Christians are probably right to feel a bit aggrieved, but it's the inevitable result of..
a) Their religion being part of the establishment, and so seen as fair game for satire.
b) Not feeling they have to kill anyone* that doesn't take their religion as seriously as they do.

(*at least not for a few hundred years now anyway).
Good reply Ludwig.
