I have had both and had issues with AA which resulted in a major complaint - having said that I would choose AA everytime over RAC as they get to me quicker and do a great insurance for older cars where they cover the first £500 of repairs if it needs to go to a garage.
I'm currently with the RAC, simply because I get a good deal with my car insurance. However I've been with the AA in the past and I can't really see much difference.

Back in my trade plating days, the firm I worked for had agreements with both the AA and the RAC, so either could be called out if a vehicle I was moving broke down. Over the 2-and-a-half years I did the job, I had to get one or the other called out loads of times. (The record was three callouts on the same day, all to different vehicles). Again I couldn't see any difference between the two organisations.

If you're looking for the best price though, consider Autonational Rescue. I used them for several years, without any problems when I needed them:

There are others.
Been in both of the above. Unsure I'd put one above the other. You probably need stats and costs to compare.
I'm with Green Flag. They are very good. I've only had to call them out once, Their response was beyond good. I will stay with them.
I got a quote from the AA and they started hounding us.
I am with the RAC because I can buy it with tesco points....this year though I have shopped less with tesco so may shop around
