would i be breaking site rules if i used answerbank like trip advisor and asked abers for advice on say hotels or tried to give my own opinion on hotels,i feel i would get a truer response on answer bank than trip advisor

Can't see why. Most of us give recommendations and opinions on all sorts of things.
i dont think it's against the rules providing you dont spam, however, im rather confused as to why one anonymous user website would be any more reliable than another anonymous user website

Don't see any probs at all in asking other ABers for their experiences when it comes to something like this. You are likelier to get a more honest answer when you consider the story about the bunch of friends who invented an hotel and got lots and lots of people to recommend it. Then Trivago (i believe) also recommended this fictitious place and commented as if they'd visited it! We ABers have no agenda.
I can't see a problem with it either. Tripadvisor often has bad reviews from rival hotels.
