I would like to get myself a basic tablet. I wont be gaming or watching films, downloading music or suchlike.
Basically it'll be for emails, using google earth/maps etc.
I know nothing about tablets and was pointed in the direction of a 'Cube iPlay 10'.
Does anyone know anything about this model? Would it suit my needs, or do you think it's rubbish?
If so do you have any other recommendations?

I know nothing about that model but I'm wary of buying (most) cheap tablets. The one I bought a few years ago (from a reputable source, Sainsbury's) is as sluggish as a snail swimming in slurry.

However the question of 'what's the best budget tablet?' comes up time and time again here on AB and there seems to be general agreement that the Amazon Fire 7 is incredibly good value for money. (It's £49.99 for the 8 GB model but an extra tenner gets you the better 16 GB one). If you want a bigger screen (with higher definition) the Amazon Fire HD 8 might also be worth considering. (£79.99 for the 16 GB version or an extra tenner for 32 GB).

The Cube iPlay 10 compares well in reviews though but you need to note that most suppliers are outside of the EU (so you'll get clobbered for imports charges on top of the advertised price). see here:

...another vote for the Amazon Fire 8HD, which I've had since it came out. You can get all the Google stuff on it, too...and all Android apps as well.
....and the Amazon tablets now include the lovely Alexa!...

Hm, thanks for that. The Fire 8HD seems to more than suit my needs, and at a good price too.
Amazon fire HD 8 gets my vote too !
I have a Kindle 10 and a Kindle 7. Both more or less as good as each except the 10 is bigger and stays charged for longer. Well worth the money. Look on Amazon.
And the 10 has Alexa installed but the 7 doesn't. It's quite funny because if someone on TV says Alexa it fires up.
gingebee, how do you get play apps on the fire? i have never been able to do it
Although I am sure I shall never need one, as I only use the internet at home, I confess I don't actually know what a tablet is, what it does or how it differs from a laptop.
Jack...Google Kindle fire HDX. You can download films, books, music etc. It's the same as a laptop just more portable.
and to add for jack you don't use a mouse you do everything by swiping the screen with your fingers.
And you can swipe type.
Thanks for educating me. It doesn't appear to be something I have need of.
