i had a car accident 4 weeks ago and my car was written off. :-(

the cheque from the insurance company is on its way but i have a personal injury claim of whiplash and torn ankle ligaments. I have submitted the forms to the insurance company with a medical consent form to access my records. how long does it normally take for a simple insurance to third party cheque take to come out?

i am not going through a personal injury lawyer.

thanks

It took five years to settle my (minor) personal injury claim - I didn't use a personal injury lawyer either.

Good luck. :(

crikes ! ! ! mental eh! the insurance company has admitted fault already
The other side admitted liability immediately in my case too.

I hope you get dealt with much quicker. Remember - never accept the first offer.

Keep ALL receipts - for travel to doctors, hospitals, physio.
Prescriptions, phone calls, bandages - every blessed little thing.

Start a spreadsheet now - make a note of every phone call, every appointment, every piece of correspondence.

Make a 'timetable of event's - when the accident happened, who you spoke to and when, letters and correspondence - everything.

Make a 'pain diary' - log the pain every day. And inconvenience it has caused. Does somebody else have to do things you would normally do? Even washing up, if you find it difficult to stand at the sink.

Loss of earnings - if applicable.

It sounds a lot, but can be recorded simply without beng too time consuming - and will be invaluable when you get asked questions that need exact answers. 'How long did you take the painkillers?' etc.

Good luck with it all!
My advice is always use a Personal Injury Solicitor. Most act free of charge these days. Otherwise how do you know whether the offer of compensation is right for the injuries you have sustained. A Personal Injury Solicitor will be able to get you what your claim is worth.
