Hi I got a new sofa delivered today, I love it. However my lovely little cat 6 years old has decided it would make a good scratching post !! She already has a cat one but seems to delight in picking furniture. Any ideas how I can gently persuade her that this is not a good idea?

I have scratch poles everywhere and yet one armchair has been almost totally destroyed. I gave up trying to stop them clawing at it ages ago. Read through this article Gordie and see if there if you can find anything that helps. https://icatcare.org/advice/problem-behaviour/scratching-furniture-and-carpets

The only thing that "works"... temporarily...with my monster is zapping him with a water spray bottle.
Water pistol and decent aim.
^^^^ great minds ;-)
There are other methods, distraction with a pinch of catnip as far from the furniture as possible. Double sided tape on the scratch spots, sticks to their pads

Cats hate the smell of oranges. Smear legs with orange juice from orange.
GO TO YOUR LOCAL PET STORE. THEY HAVE SPRAYS YOU CAN SPRAY YOUR FURNITURE WITH, THIS WILL KEEP YOUR FUR BABY FROM SCRATCHING UP YOUR FURNITURE.
