On of the people I most admired for their strong faith was Hudson Taylor, missionary to China in the 1800's. I read his biography, and he never did anything without prayer and waiting on the Lord.
I would love to have a strong faith like that.
Are there any that stand out for you, as examples of a strong faith?

All those who are willing to pay the price for their principles.

Examples are:

JC, Thomas More, Solzhenitsyn, Mandela, Aung San Suu Kyi
(oops!) and Ayaan Hirsi Ali.
Jeremy Corbyn doesn't quite fit the bill!
It's not so much the faith (don't believe the principle which More argued) as the moral constancy which I admire. It's a willingness to prosecute your case knowing that the consequences to you will be bad. The thing I'm admiring actually is courage. I have very strong opinions on many issues, but there's a point at which I'd back off from advocating them. That point is when somebody legally or otherwise is going to give me a good kicking for mouthing off.

Which makes me a coward.
More was not the saint he is acknowledged to be. His diatribes against Martin Luther, filled with filthy language, and his relentless persecution of so-called 'heretics' testify to that.

I admire Hudson Taylor, for his certainty, and patience on waiting on God to direct his path.
I wasn't arguing More's "sanctity" [decency in your and my case perhaps], Jackdaw: he was quite happy to see people burnt for heresy.

But More died for a principle. He could have renounced (or dissembled) it, like most of this fellow clergy.

"My husband is about to die and he congratulates me on the quality of my custard".

Wendy Hiller to Paul Scofield. Robert Bolt. Man for All Seasons.

I take your point but I don't think he was worthy of canonisation.
My Mother.
Giovanni di Pietro di Bernadone (St Francis of Assisi) or Joan of Arc I suppose.
Martin Luther King.
Yes, some that really stand out to me would be (after St Paul), William Wilberforce, John Nelson Darby, John Bunyan and Brother Andrew. All incredible people due to their service to Christ and faith in God. The results of their service is surely unmeasurable in human terms.
