I had a tenant who rented my flat out years ago; he made a real mess of it and then asked if I would evict him so he could get a council house- which I did. I went to court with him and he was told to pay what he owed me in rent (around £1.5k). He never paid a penny and many years on, I managed to get an attachment of earnings so some money was taken from him wages. However, after about 3 payments (all of which he contested) I have been told that he no longer has his job, so the payments have stopped. I don't know what to do now. I am so angry that he has made no effort to pay; he now has a council house and I am left with his debt. Any ideas on what I can do now?

Letting something that happened years ago eat away at you now isn't good. Forget it and move on.
Small claims court. Then bailiff or sheriff.
You can’t get blood out of a stone – any time and money spent trying to recover the debt is highly likely not to be worth the effort (or money) – as snags says, put it down to experience and move on.
The Sheriffs? Says on the TV program it's less than £100.
Just let it go. Trying to do more will just cost you court fees which again they will not pay. Bailiffs/ sheriffs can not get money from someone who has no assets and does not work. You are going to come up against the time limit to make a claim soon,even if it is not already too late.
Go back to court to seek an alternative enforcement measure. See here:

let it go
you have a judgement against him in order to garnish his wages, now leave it
and face forward, face the future, and get on with your life.

just be thankful you got possession in a decent time
I agree you should let it go. I have had similar happen trying to get blood from a stone isn't worth the heartache. As PP says, you should be thankful you got possession when you did; it could have been a lot worse.
Sorry meant 'I have had similar happen and trying to get blood from a stone isn't worth the heartache.'
