Oily fish is traditionally meant to be 'brain food' and be generally good for you, does taking cod liver oil tablets have the same beneficial effects? Is it really worth doing, and what are the specific benefits?

I have had to stop taking cold liver oil tablets it affected my hair and made it greasy.
Sorry for "cold" read "cod", obvioulsy they haven't helped my brain.
I take cod liver oil tablets to ease joint pain and help digestion they and other fish oil tablets are supposed to benifit your health. Our parents and grandparents used to take it by the spoonfull when they were younger which must have been disgusting now they are available in a number of forms that are much easier to stomach.Generally though it may not be totally obvious what the benefits are over a short period and its not like having a headache dissapear by taking a tablet ,vitamins and supplements like cod liver oil are tried and tested over hundreds of years and by and large do not have adverse side effects
