Hi there
I had a lower molar removed at the back on the right hand side. I dont remember much about it I took a lot of lorezapam. It took several attempts and 5 injections to get it out as it had a very deep root she showed me it on the xray at appt a few weeks ago. I had it out on tuesday and my jaw feels very swollen and sore to eat I can only eat weetabix yogurts and soup. How long should it take for the pain to subside. I wasnt expecting this.

I think you need to be a bit patient, Gordie. The pain will be there for a few days yet. Take whatever painkillers you have been told to.
That sort of serious mauling will take a while to settle down.

The dentist will have disturbed a number of nerves, and also caused swelling, which take a few days to settle.

If you are still in as much pain after four days, go back, but by then you should start to see, or rather feel, some improvement.
Oh no this doesn't bode well for me. Terrified of dentists I have an appointment with Maxo people to cut my gums (they've put it off twice thank The Lord n pass the gin) to get out the roots od broken teeth. I just hope I cark it before then, don't think I can cope. So brave of you Geordie!

I told them I wouldn't take painkillers fter it's done but advised to do so..... I am trying every which way to come to terms so you really have my empathy and sympathy that's for sure. I hope you find some relief ASAP x

dunnitall - Your dentist may be willing to prescribe a small dose of tranquilisers, say a 2mg tablet, to take the edge of your nervousness.

I used to be completely phobic about the dentist, I couldn't even get in the building, never mind upstairs, in the surgery, and in the chair!

Medication does work, so ask about it.
are you taking paracetamol and ibuprofen
( or whatever it was that the dentist preseribed) ?

early days to be out of pain if the root was deep

no brownie points for failing to take ( adequate ) pain relief.
You’ve pretty much been punched in the jaw, Geordie, so it will take a few days to settle down
