Church Service In The Open Air

I have tried googling (but obviously not getting very far). I live in a little village and today when I went to the local shop the vicar was in the car park with a small number of other people including a man with a staff which seemed to have feathers tied to the top and a donkey - I presume it's something to do with Easter, can anyone shed any light on this so I can tell my children what it was actually about? I was impressed that the vicar had a personalised hi-viz jacket with 'vicar' printed on the back (like you would be less likely to knock her over or something).
