Time for some proper cricket after the hit&giggle fest of the last couple of months - be a treat to be able to settle down and watch a match evolve over a decent period of time.

England really should win - but NZ are by no means a pushover and the day/night nonsense (pink balls anyone?) will level the teams down a bit I think.

Good pre-match analysis from Aggers here :

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/43427999

So it's TMS on the radio, Sky on the TV and a glass of malt in hand - the build-up is from midnight and the match starts at 1am

Cheers my dear old things ...

I may have another toddy ...
Dave - how ironic the first paragraph of your original post turned out to be.
Terrific 10th-wicket stand doubled England's total!
If England’s T20 team scored as few runs as England’s test team scored in less than 21 overs, questions would be asked in the House.
pathetic ...England on tour ....more like on a holiday!!!
The next time that England tour, they should send Manchester United. They couldn't do any worse!

NZ made the pitch look like it was - a bit of movement, nothing drastic, just a standard first day strip.

After England missed a simple run-out of the very first ball, NZ progressed comfortably enough (bar the odd dropped catch) and scored at just under 3 runs an over - "Proper Test Crickit" as Sir Geoffrey would say.

England weren't even up to snuff for the fielding part of their job - "Pooer, Very Pooer" to again quote the Sage of Fitzwilliam.

I may have an early night with the covers tightly pulled over my head tonight.

Eng 58 all out
NZ 175-3
