An article on the front page of The Sunday Times reads -

'Waitrose is selling gender neutral Mother's Day cards as retailers reduce their use of the M-word to make today's celebration more "transgender inclusive".

The supermarket chain is selling a "Happy You Day" card in its Mother's Day range in which the word "mother" does not appear.

Waitrose said the move was aimed at "broadening out who the cards can go to, whether it's grandmas or transgender mums". Traditional cards are still sold.

Waitrose has been joined by other retailers, including Scribbler, whose Mother's Day offerings include a "Two mums are better than one" card for same-sex couples and a "Dad, thanks for being the most amazing mum" card.

Karen Pollock, a trans campaigner and therapist, said Mothering Sunday, the church's traditional name for Mother's Day, "feels more inclusive to me, since anyone can be 'mothering'".

And so the article goes on.

My postie would need a wheelbarrow, Shoota....but hey......they're thinking about me..... ;-)
We all do G, we all do....
From OG, //It's Mothers Day so if you aren't a mother then it's not your day //

Summed up nicely.
Will Fathers day have to become gender neutral as well?
'Have to'?

Just buy the card you want, no one is forced into buying something different.
'Mother's Day' is the modern version. It was always 'Mothering Sunday' when I was young.
Eddie, if you're a church-goer it's still mothering Sunday.
Eventually over the years it all got rolled into one.

There are two versions of Mother's day ,the British one which is based on a religious festival and the US one which is purely commercial intended to sell cards and gifts to Mothers. The US one is a month later than ours.

^ For mothers not to mothers.
A father is a father, not a mother. I grew up with just a mother and never knew my father, but I never sent my mother a Father's Day Card or thanked her for being "both a mum and a dad." We were simply a one-parent family.

If gender neutrals or single dads want recognition for their achievements they should get their own designated day and not hijack Mother's Day.

Mothering Sunday, or Refreshment Sunday as it is sometimes known, from the gospel of the day which is the feeding of the 5000, and a day when one is temporarily allowed to relax the Lenten fasting rules, has a long history. Those in service, maids and footmen who lived in, were given the day off to go and visit their mothers. There are three types of mother remembered in church: Holy Mother Church, The Blessed Virgin Mary and our own mothers.
I always give my daughter a Mother's Day card to say thank you for being a great mum to my grandchildren.
"With Deepest Sympathy," for having to witness your beloved offspring grow up in such a bent world!
If that's how you feel then do it.
I guess the insiduous yet inescapable promotion of gender neutrality could become quite fun- let's force the government to re-brand the chauvinistically-named "MANchester", remove the sexist title of "LADYbirds" and ensure "BOYcotts" become a thing of the past.
