he can't keep it out of anything and pokes it into everything. I've tried putting Vaseline, Nivea Lip Butter, Burt's Beeswax onto his nose but he fights me all the way. I get so little on because he either licks it off my finger or won't let me near. What I do get on his nose he licks straight off. He can see bits of skin hanging off his nose and bites into the air to try and get them, poor boy (LOL).
All of the ointments I mentioned do work when I can get them onto him so I need advice on distracting him so I can get more on him or suggestions for a liquid I can spray on. The vet wasn't bothered but it's got worse. I don't think it's an allergy because nothing's changed except we took in a rescue cat and I pray that's not the reason. Thanks ABers.

Did the vet say why he wasn't bothered?

Thank you Danny I've read that link before and it didn't really help. My vet didn't say why, but my guess would be that she thought it was the last thing to worry about as he has so many more serious things wrong with him.
The thing is, all of those ointments do work when I can get them on him. Other than binding his legs together I am at a loss.
Can't understand the vet's lack of interest.it must be annoying, if not painful, for the dog.
Have you considered using a muzzle to stop him getting at it?
Question Author
Yes Danny, I agree, it must be very uncomfortable for him. It probably bothers me more than it does him as it is only occasionally it seems to bother him. He's asleep in his bed now with his nose poking out and I'd love to go over and start smearing but the minute I touch it he will twist his head away and his legs will join the fight to get me to stop. He lets me bathe his eyes so I can only conclude his nose must be painful. Thank you for trying to help Danny. x
Actually, just had an idea. I might give him a Melatonin tablet and put his Thunder Vest on and see if he'll let me do it then.
