I've been using my deep fat fryer to fry fish. I want to get rid of the fishiness. What's the best way to clean it, given that it's an electrical item?

A tip I got from AB. Fill it full of water to max, add a dishwasher tablet and leave it on low, put the lid on, and let it bubble for a few hours. The build up will just wash up in hot soapy water after that.

empty the oil wipe with kitchen paper, fill with hot water and soap powder and plug in.
Leave for an hour or two, then empty and rinse a few times, do not dip it in water but just fill from a jug
We do ours by emptying oil into old bottle to take to recycling centre...don't pour down the drain. Our oil container lifts out of the 'cradle' thing it sits in and the element slides off so easier to clean. Wipe out thoroughly with kitchen paper, add boiling water and washing up liquid scrub round several times dry and wash the element without getting electric housing wet.

As for fryers that don't come apart same as above but pour boiling water in and washing up liquid....after emptying and scrub and wash several times taking care to keep electrical parts dry. That's how I used to do the old one but now prefer the one that comes apart of course lol. Other than that...buy new fryer....(smile).
