it was sent by text. which makes me think its dodgy...

It might be, it might not. Dont follow any links and do your log in from the Barclays site and see if there are any messages there.

Phone your branch if you're concerned EM, seems a bit odd to me x

It's got to be harmless to log in to your bank account in the usual way and see if Barclays have any messages for you.

The only safe way to find out is to log in via the normal proper channel rather than via any links and then check for any messages

As stated, a phone call would put your mind at rest. I nearly fell for it when I accidentally logged on to a rogue HSBC site. It wasn't until they asked for my PIN that I twigged.

Phone customer services - they will tell you if its genuine or not.

So long as you avoid using links or phone numbers given in the text and use your usual login method you should be safe.
