I have one email account which I only use for family, friends, employers and utilty and banks.

For the last couple of months I have received at least 30-40 emails a day in my spam box all appearing to come from ATTCustomerCare @ emaildl.att-mail.com or from ATTCustomerCare @ some random collection of letters dot com. They are all the usual rubbish- bitcoin, Russian women, exotic brides, gambling sites, debt consolidation...

Blocking them or filtering them doesn't work as the raw headers show the true sender as being a blank or sometimes as other.com names which differ slightly every time.
Reporting them to abuse @ ATT.net makes no difference either and I'm sure they will say it's not their problem as they are not sending them.

Does anyone know please why this is happening- why always ATT- and is there a solution?

I can live with it for now but I'm wondering if it shows a problem either with my PC or my email account. .

Anyone had a similar experience?

Thanks

Sadly once you are on a spammers hit list there is not much you can do.

Like you I also have an email address that was ONLY used for my family and a few close friends (so only a dozen or so people). I never used it on web sites etc. as I have other email addresses I use for web sites, banking etc.

About a year ago, out of the blue, it began to get spam and I now get about 50 spam a day (which all goes in to my spam folder).

All seems to be US based (Trump, US Medical Care, US car repair etc).

I keep hoping that one day they will catch the b*****s who are sending it and it will stop, but it has been going on for over a year now.

I think my only choice is to set up another email address and tell all my relatives and friends about my new email address.

I have no idea how they got my email address (and it is not JUST based on my name like John Smith or whatever it is more obscure than that).
My spam box is set to delete any unread items after 10 days so I don't worry about anything in there. Can you not just do the same?

Easier than that eddie- I can simply delete it straight away or just let it lie there forever. I can't ignore my spam box though as occasionally something slips in there that is genuine mail so I do check it every day and then delete.
But I was wondering whether there was something to worry about such as when spam purporting to come from me was sent to myself and others.
