My printer is an SX445W and the cartridges are supposed to be compatible. I have disabled the Epson status monitor in the printer preferences but it hasn't made any difference. Thanks

I can’t guarantee this will work – but all I can recommend is that you remove the cartridges and replace them (put them back in). It might be worth removing them all, powering down the printer and then putting them all back in one go – rather than replacing one at a time.

As posted on this site many a time – I use compatibles with my Epson printers.
I’m suspicious that allowing your PC to update the Epson software (which is quite a frequent request) allows them to noble compatible cartridges that would otherwise work.

I generally don’t allow the updates – after all, the printer is working OK.
just posted to commiserate
Epson frquently rejects its own cartridges
or says they are empty when they arent

a real pain
I had this problem too. I found that if I pressed them down really, really hard into the sockets, they worked. It might have been a fluke but I got them to work.
I had endless such trouble, there are several you tubes on the subject, tried them all, sometimes they work for a bit, but in the end scrapped the Epson printers and bought a problem-free Canon, but I only use original cartridges now.
