thats good..
I watched it this afternoon. Interesting bits but I found it very slow.
I found it interesting & enjoyable & am looking forward to the rest of the series.
I enjoyed it Emmie, worth a look.
Byzantium - Sebag monetfiore - is on its second showing and it quite good
3 x 1h on Greek Christian and Turkish

There is strong pressure on these presenters to find something new - (churchill was a KGB agent, Hitler was a bigamist, Stalin was cutesey and a puppet)
and he takes a benign view on Turkish occupation so far
( fun lovers, liked science and technology, and werent cruel oppressors to just about everyone )

but hell - good photography
going to watch it later. i've been watching Mary Beards rome series, she is really good too

On another thread, hoping to direct someone to what I thought would be a Wikipedia link, I discovered that the whole 13 of K.C'c Civilization programmes are available on YouTube. We've been watching one each evening - now onto #9 tonight. Haven't seen them since they were first screened and I'd forgotten how fantastically good they were.
just watched on iPlayer. The visuals are breathtaking the chat is confused and has no point to make and no conclusion to offer, like the new discovered true bust of Caesar head then Mary says well it probably ain't. Like huh? or the big Olmec head. She says here it is folks then thats it. Like huh? But the Hi Def visuals oh wow! Inside Hagia Sofia floating around St Peter's, Petra! Oh wow.
I thought it was a very long, boring watch. I much prefer Andrew Graham-Dixon as a presenter though some of the visuals were stunning.
It's a bit like The Louvre commissioning a "new" Mona Lisa, maybe with a few modern tricks - like 3D?
By using the same title as the Kenneth Clark masterpiece the BBC are almost guaranteed a success, even with THREE right-on but dozy presenters contaminating it with their egos.
I didn't watch it but if its on catch up I'll definitely watch. Love watching Mary Beard.
Just noticed that it is repeated tonight at 1.40 on BBC2.
I've just found it on catch up.

The first few minutes of it has filled me with anger and upset!!
