Can anyone recommend a good basic Freeview recorder? We had a Bush one which worked well but is failing now. Any advice gratefully received. I don't want to spend a huge amount.

Humax devices are popular, well-reviewed and fairly cheap:

Yep, we have a Humax and it works well.

Ours connects to the internet too which allows us to access programmes which we missed or that are available via the bank of free to view. If you want that facility, look for a Humax with YouView built in.
This is ours. An extra £40 give you the ability to playback via the internet, otherwise stick with the previous option.

We too have a Humax box. Works fine for us.
To my mind the BT YouView box is good. You don’t need an Ethernet cable, just an hdmi cable, which is supplied. £150 at Argos.
