Has anyone managed to get good tickets by signing up to a band's website? Is it worth it or do you still get average seats because everyone else had the same idea?

I've never got good seats from pre-sale tickets.
Tried twice by signing up to the bands / singers fan club website events and my both my tickets were rubbish. One gig was 3 rows from the back and the other was next to the mixing desk at the back.
Never doing that again.
I only buy direct from the box office now but ask where my seat is before buying. I once managed to get front row to Sheryl Crow and second row at a Sting concert by getting tickets from box office in person.

Thanks for the reply. The only time I ever went to the box office was when I wanted tickets for U2 at Twickenham. The website kept crashing so I decided to drive there. I queued for 4 hours in the January drizzle and got 3 tickets (and still had to spend £27 in booking fees). In the whole stadium, there was only one block that was available for box office bookings. The rest were assigned to Ticketmaster etc. I`m going to sit up until midnight to try to get some pre-sale tickets. I bet they are on ebay in the morning

Well it worked. Probably due to there being a delay in pre sale codes being sent out in stages via email. I must have been one of the earlier ones.
