Pickled Beetroot

Don't buy it very often but when I do - I find the beets are like "the ends" of the beetroots - not nice. Anybody tell me good pickled beetroot.

Also while I am on the subject - is beetroot juice really good for you - thanks

baxters if you can get it..the whole baby beets are nice
I usually buy jars of baby whole beets, though the jar I've just bought is Haywards diced beetroot for a change.
The only good beetroot is a dead beetroot....

Well you could try trimming the stalky and root ends off, not a major task. Garners beetroot are quite good.

Beetroot juice needs to be cut with another juice, usually apple as it can affect vocal chords and the heart if drunk neat. You wouldn’t be using pickled beetroot for juice though?

no not for juice - just with a salad
I think it's good for you, Conne......I drink beetroot juice and eat lots but never pickled.....prefer the earthy taste of plain beetroot.....

And of course it's supposed to help lower BP which is vital for me when the man with the gun and ever changing avatars is teasing....x

Any pickled beetroot is disgusting because it's drowned in malt vinegar. Buy fresh beetroot and do what you will with them - delicious!
Beetroot is supposed to be good for lowering blood pressure. Pity they taste so blooming awful.
OG - if you're talking about pickled beetroot I agree with you. However fresh ones are delicious roasted, in salads etc etc etc.
Pickled beetroot obviously has its place in the world, why else would there be a choice on supermarket shelves?

OG, I like the flavour of beetroot but cannot stand the muddy smell when they are boiled hence I tend to roast or salt bake them.
Spent my entire life from a child hating beetroot and even the smell of it.
A few years ago when I first got an allotment I was asked if we could grow some. It was very easy to grow, lo and behold I tried it once again after this lifelong abstenance. How amazing it was and now I plant it every few weeks and have a constant supply throughout the year.
Two point mentioned in this thread that I would question .. why would you expect the ends of the beetroot to be pleasant .. I take the top and base off when I remove them from the ground.
Secondly ... why would you boil it .. put a dribble of water in a pyrex dish and microwave it until its done.
Just test it, as you would a potato. With a sharp spike.
I’m really fancying a pickled beetroot and cheddar cheese sandwich with salad cream.

I use stock cubes in my soup too if I don’t have any home made in the freezer :-p
I pickled my own using a sweet pickling juice which contains star anise, it was lovely and not at all drowning in malt vinegar
I've tried cartons of beetroot juice too. Still tastes blooming awful. Can't imagine roasting would change much.
OG - I have always disliked the earthy taste of beetroot but I recently had some in a dish served in a pub and I actually quite liked it. I asked about how it was cooked and it was boiled, peeled and roasted with salt. It didn't taste muddy and I might even consider eating it again (if only because it is good for me)
