Further to my post on 21st January regarding run flat tyres my attention has been drawn to Tyron Bands. I understand that their primary function is to ensure the tyre is retained on the rim in the event of a blow out, but also allows a certain amount of run flat distance. Do any of our AB's have any experience of these Tyron Bands. As usual any responses will be much appreciated.

Recently got rid of a Beemer on runflats, they quoted a maximum of 50 miles on runflats at 50 mph, luckily never had reason to test them.

I think Tyron bands are primarily designed for trailers/caravans, where a puncture is less easily noticed than on the towing vehicle. They are designed to stop the tyre coming completely off the rim, not really to convert it to a run-flat.
Spot on bhg!

Thank you all for your responses. All things considered I think I will get my car reshod on conventional tyres and take my chances. Again, thank you all.
When seeking tyres, check the prices on blackcircles and tyreshopper.

They both get them fitted at major tyre chains, and are a lot cheaper.
