Constantly tired?

I am tired constantly from the moment I wake til I go back to bed. I sleep easily and soundly, and have to physically force myself from bed as I could literally sleep for days. I'm not on any medication other than the pill, but this has been ongoing since long before I started taking it. I suffer from quite severe IBS and I feel that I probably don't get enough nutrients from my food as a result, though I don't know if this is the cause. I'm not particularly run down otherwise. I have previously suffered from severe depressive episodes, but I honestly don't feel hopeless or numb right now, just insatiably tired. Any advice?

** I forgot to say: I've had blood screenings and am not anaemic, throid levels are normal, etc. I'm also only 23, and try to eat healthily.**

Have you been tested for ME?

Sounds like some of the symptoms.

I would agree with Froggy, one of my friends had ME and described her symptoms just like yours. I suggest you visit your GP just to check.
I'm 25 and feel exactly the same, i've been on the pill for 5 years and have everything you have described. It's really getting me down as even if i have hours of sleep i'm still exhausted. I have been tested for most things at the doctors and my throid levels are normal, i'm not anaemic and i've also been tested for diabeties, which i don't have. I'm vegetarian so people believe i don't get the right nutrients from food. I did have glandular fever when i was 18 and thought maybe it was some strain of this? Have you been tested for Glandular fever??

Hi Splurge. I had glandular fever when I was about 17. It knocked me off my feet for about 3 months, although, now that others have mentioned ME, I remember reading somewhere that Glangular Fever can often become ME. So now I'm tired and upset thinking that I have horrible ME! ;-)

As far as I know there's no test for ME, but please correct me if I'm wrong. I've spoken to my doctor several times about this (and have even changed doctors during the course of this problem) but nobody has ever mentioned the likelihood of ME. Probably because when I talk about how tired I am I get upset and start crying, so they relate it back to previous episodes of depression. How rubbish am I?!

Also, I was veggie for about 7 years and I have to say, I was probably much healthier and constantly aware of my nutritional intake during this time. So anyone who blames it on that is probably talking rubbish and thinks that all veggies survive on lettuce and tofu (yuck!).

I'm going to look into ME a bit more before approaching my doctor...

5 years later------good luck

Malaise, i've been to my doctor and he also said nothing about ME to me, even when i asked!
He did say that once you have Glandular Fever, you always carry it and it can hit you again in your life but there are no simple tests to determine if this is the cause.
I find that unless you have symptoms that can be physically seen etc doctors find it hard to determine the cause.

I am suffering from many of the same symptoms as you- constantly tired, no get up and go etc. Ive recently stopped taking the pilll as my doc said it could be messing with my hormones and suggested a break from it. Im not sold as ive been on the pill for about 8 years and never felt like this before. Ive also been tested for anaemia and thyroid, but both came back fine. Im starting to think it might be the start of ME or something more serious which scares me alot. I too had glandular fever about 10 years ago for about 6-8 weeks but dont know if there's any connection. No-one seems to be able to come up with any 'solutions' to my tirdness but its nice to know im not alone. I recently read somewhere that selenium can help but havent tried it yet. might be worth looking into ??
