Hi Everybody!

I just got job offer in school kitchen as general assistant for 40 hour per week for £9 per hour.
I want to ask if anyone know if i got paid fully during the school holiday ? Because there is lot more than 28 days per year. I asked manager and he said i will get paid fully during all 13 weeks.
But anything will be deduct from my salary or how much i can expect. Because it is hard to believe that i am gonna get 160 x 9= £1440 per month brutto (minus tax and Ni and pension).
Sorry for stupid question but that my first time when i am thinking of taking contract,
But i want to know how much salary i can expect each month regardless have holiday or not.
Thank you very much
Marta

You need to ask what the actual pay is. My guess is they will calculate your annual salary based on maybe 44 weeks and spread the money over 52 weeks.
I don't underwstand your sentence "But anything will be deduct from my salary ..."
One of my aunts was a school kitchen manager. I have just sent her a text to ask you question. I'll let you know.
My daughter does the same job, ff is correct , total hours worked in a year are divided by 12 and you get 1/12 th of a years pay each month. (or by 13 if it is 4 weekly paid ) So you still get paid during the 6 weeks summer holiday etc.
^ I would just add that years ago school kitchen staff often only got a retainer fee during school holidays. I think it was called a 'term time only' contract.

Hi Everybody!
Thanks for your answer! So it is mean i only get paid hours i worked and they will divided 12 month? Actually is less than like i would work all over year and only would get 28 days paid holiday?
Thank you very much
Marta
I'm not sure you'd even get 28 days paid holiday as that is the minimum for someone who works the whole year round, but maybe as you can't take holidays in term time that holidays accrue and that is factored into the pay calculation. (I get paid a day rate and holiday pay is built in.)
You need to clarify with the potential employer. Sometimes the salary quoted includes the words prorata to differentiate from the salry you would get if you worked all year round.
I'm not sure how minimum wage fits in- I assume that as long as your actual annual pay divided by the actual hours worked (which may be where your £9 an hour figure comes from) exceeds the minimum wage then that's okay. However I can see some employment lawyer might challenge it though and say "but you only get £7 and a bit an hour on the days you work so it's below minimum wage...."
This may help, Marta.

As you can see it's an area where there is a lack of clarity. The employment laws don't really fit and the way in which may is calculated varies between different authorities and roles.
Only your employer can explain how your pay will be calculated but I'm pretty certain it will be quite a bit less over the year than you hoped as you only work 39 weeks a year.
Are you sure you're doing forty hours per week? That's eight hours a day...as a general assistant.
As I see it, you will work 1600 hours in a year , 40 hours a week for the 40 week school year = 1600 hours in a year.
Divide 1600 by 12 to get the amount per month = 133.3 hours a month at £9 an hour = £1199 .70 per month.
Minus tax and other deductions.
Are you sure it is 40 hours per week? My daughter works as a school kitchen assistant , 9.30am to 2.30 pm 5 days a week = 5 hours a day 5 days a week ,25 hours.
40 hours a week seems a lot for a school kitchen assistant.
Depends who you are contracted to.

I worked directly for the school and got paid 52 weeks of the year because the year spread my pay over the year rather than just the weeks I worked.

Thank you guys!
Yes it is 40 hours shift because it is a massive school around 1400 children plus staff. Starting preparing food early morning and the food service is takes 2 hours clearing up everything.
I know most of school kitchen assistant job is only few hours per day but they smaller school i guess.
Thank you very much for your answer again
