Hi All, every afternoon, at this time, there is a house alarm that goes off, but it continues for hours before it stops again. The noise is really hurting my ears at the moment and I don't know my rights to have this stopped.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Three steps.

1. Visit your neighbour and explain the problem.

2. If this is not possible, write to your neighbour about the problem.

3. If that doesn't work, contact your local council and complain of noise nuisance. In the week before you do that, make a written record of each time it goes off, recording the date, time it starts and time it finishes.

If other neighbours are affected ask them to do the same.

Good luck!

Have a look at this site. It's issued by Luton Borough Council, but I would imagine it would apply anywhere across the country.

You say the noise continues for hours, but on the council site, it states it should stop automatically after 20 minutes. Alarms should also be serviced at least once a year.

I think Ethel, as usual, has given you good advice; that is don't go to the council straight away, but if eventually you have to, then take details of dates, times etc.

Hope you get it sorted and you don't have to resort to putting expanding foam in the bell box.

Good luck.
