Disgraceful
// Tony Blair and his disgraceful Good Friday Agreement. //

John Major was the architect of the Good Friday Agreement (GFA). Blair was just around to finish the job.
While the GFA wiped a lot of grubby slates clean, the resulting relative peace was worth the price.

Haggarty was facing 202 crimes. Many of which were committed after 1998 (when the GFA wiped the slate) up until 2007. The GFA did not pardon future crimes after its signing.

Very esoteric Douglas.Could you explain.

you mean that we are being naive in supposing he should get a longer sentence, and that he dobbed people in so he shouldn't serve that long sentence.
I’d be interested to know exactly how much police time he saved.
The obvious objection to all this is that sentencing should be and is a matter for a court and should not be influenced by any sort of deal. If a judge thinks that morally what the person did is worthwhile then he can pass a reduced sentence. If that is the case here then fair enough. The idea that the police could guarantee a reduced sentence though is unsatisfactory.
I am rather surprised that the police have allowed so much publicity about him being a snitch.Ulterior motive perhaps?

its been on the news for days.
I know that Emmie, that is why I am a little surprised.
// gromit - so that's ok then //

I didn’t say it was OK. It plainly isn’t. Rewarding criminals with shorter sentences should be illegal. I was explaining that is how the system works, I was not endorsing it.
