.. but some can't even see it now! Would you not agree that this man was a visionary?

No I think he was a racist agitator.
Enoch was the best PM we never had. Heath couldn't hold a candle to him.
I agree it was best we never had Powell as a PM.
These insinuations about poor Mr Heath must stop!
On the other hand the rivers have remained largely blood-free :-)
I thought it summed Powell up when he referred to Virgil as "the Roman" (although maybe he couldn't remember his name :-) )
He'd be horrified at the thought that Brexit might lead to more Commonwealth immigration!
I have lived my life under 13 PMs, both Tory and Labour. In my opinion Heath was by far the worst of the lot, and I say that as a committed Tory.
I think that such an eminent classical scholar like Powell would remember Vergil's name. He was quoting from Aeneid Book VI, the Sybil's reply to Aeneas after he had consulted her about the future:

"...bella, horrida bella
Et Thybrim multo spumantem sanguine cerno".

(...wars, terrible wars, and I see the Tiber foaming with much blood)
Yes Khandro he was.
Yes of course he'd remember his name jack: he was a brilliant classical scholar and I regret missing him the day he came to our school debating society.
I just never really went a bundle on his politics :-)
He spoke with the voice of a realist and pragmatist. Coupled with a classical education and a grasp on human, nature and history, the luvvies hated him. They did all that they possibly could to isolate and stifle him. Truth always prevails, though sometimes to late.
You don't normally get to be a professor at the age of 25, neither do you normally rise from the rank of private to brigadier in 6 years.

I think you should think carefully about what you have said there,
please activate brain before using keyboard.
The only sad thing about Enoch is that he is not alive today to witness the result of the Brexit vote. How he would have rejoiced!
Khandro, you might want to read this (actually, you might not but I recommend that you do - it's better than Morrissey!):

Say what you will about you tube and other internet web sites.......but without them that speech given all those years ago would have remained buried. I had it forwarded to me some months ago and on the you tube site that is not through this sites shows some of the comments by people who have viewed it. One person said he had a mind like a steel trap. If you know how look up on the tube for "Enoch Powell’s EEC / EU Prophecy " and have a scroll down through the comments. The particular clip I am referring to has a picture of Enoch wearing a tweed jacket and tie and he is much older.

Nope, just checked and there is a distinct lack of red foam :-)
I'll take a t shirt anyway if there's one going.
I'm building up quite collection!
From Zac's link.

//He complained his constituents were becoming strangers in their own country, that their wives could not get hospital beds to give birth in, or their children school places.//

His constituency was............Wolverhampton. Wrong was he?
Togo, is it not true that those strangers are now British born subjects?
Well, I read it Zacs.

Just because Powell was able to quote Latin poets it does not make his appalling racism any more acceptable than that of the ill-educated thugs of the National Front at the time.
Yes Ich, quite true.
I note that the article ZM cites was written by a Labour MP.
