could somebody please tell me if there is a quick fix to get rid of protein from my pond. It has a horrible scum. I'm told its protein. I dont want to go to the expense of buying a protein skimmer.

You could do more water changes or reduce the amount of "high protein" food you're feeding.

It was terrible on my koi pond too but for some reason, it has now stopped the foaming even thought i feed very high protein food such as silkworm pupae and prawns. Don't know why !!!

Thanks for the advice, I've been doing a regular once per week 1/3 water change, I'm a little concerned about doing more, I dont want to knock the filter back. did yours stop recently or was it when the sun hours reduced?
Well.....when we had our initial warm spell probably back in early may, i chucked my air pump (90lts per min) on with 8 air stones. That's when the froth developed. I then took the airstone off for a few weeks when it got cooler.

But i put it back on mid june and there hasn't been any froth since so make of that what you can.
