This is a very busy airport, so the trouble this is causing must be terrible.

The last time I flew into Schiphol, we made 3 attempts to land and only just succeeded on the 3rd. Its the only time that I have felt really frightened in an aircraft. Schiphol seems to be prone to high winds.

If you think Schiphol is bad for winds, try flying into Leeds/Bradford!
Yes mikey I must admit, those biplanes were very dodgy landing in a cross wind. :0)
Funny old world. Storms and bad weather cause chaos and cancellations in Holland and Germany, drawing sympathy and concern from Mikey. When it happens in the UK, calls for Mrs May to resign and the sacking of officials would be called for.

Beat me to it ^^ Togo ;o)
"If you think Schiphol is bad for winds, try flying into Leeds/Bradford!"

The main problem with Leeds/Bradford airport is that the runway faces the wrong direction. The prevailing winds in the UK are from the west and most large airports have their runways aligned as closely as possible to the east/west direction (designated 09/27 or thereabouts). That at Leeds/Bradford is designated 32/14 meaning it is aligned roughly north west (which is 315 degrees) to south east (135 degrees). North westerly and south easterly winds are uncommon in the UK and so for much of the time aircraft are landing and taking off in crosswinds.

/// calls for Mrs May to resign and the sacking of officials *would* be called for///

Togo is not saying you have Mikey, note the word WOULD in the post.

I think it's merely a slight case of hyperbole.

When I posted @ 12:49 I did not say who might take such a view! But if the cap fits you are welcome to it. :))
I was once on the last flight to land at Leeds Bradford because of snow. Quite scary. But not a scary as almost touching down at Manchester only to remain airborne and go on to Liverpool in very high winds. The plane was full of hardy oil rig workers and it was eerily quiet.
