As has been said, hot water is probably all that's needed.
However, if you're having difficulties trimming your toenails, I have to ask what are you cutting them with? I used to find great difficulty cutting my toenails with scissors but I found that the purchase of a set of good quality nail clippers was enough to make the task really simple.
I live in sheltered accommodation and a lady comes every six weeks so residents can see her. She is very good and only charges £10. Most chiropodists do home visits but be prepared to pay more than I do.
I'm not recommending this particular product, Cross.....but I have one similar...
I never cut my toenails now......I just use this about every seven to ten days to keep my nails in good condition and shapely.....and it's quite easy to use when it becomes difficult to reach with scissors...x
