Freudian connection, Douglas:

Remember seeing the film "1776" on the occasion's bicentenary with my first wife.

Had some jarring anachronisms and a clown cast as Franklin, but that song and Cullum's performance deserved an Oscar each.
I saw his interview on Christian Radio yesterday, and yes.....that is exactly what he said. He apologised for his previous confusing statement.

But who really cares ? The Libs are done as a political force for the foreseeable future.
A stupid opinion from an irrelevant twonk. Good riddance.
Well said Kromo !

Now, lets talk about some really important !
Mikey, Well, Farron is an elected MP and former leader of his party so really his opinions must be at least as valid as those of Nigel Farage or other members of UKIP - subjects of regular posts from you. More virtue signalling?
Politicians are quite capable of having stupid opinions, naomi.
Indeed they are, Krom - as are other people.

It's an interesting dilemma - do you stay true to your religious principles and betray your party line, or stay true to your party, and betray your faith?

Mr Fallon has managed the difficult, but not impossible task of being disloyal to both his party and his faith, and he has now slipped down the crack between them and will doubtless vanish accordingly.
He's saying he does think it's a sin, but he lied when he was campaigning because he knew he'd lose votes if he told the truth.
Ludwig - lying makes him an unfit politician, and an unfit Christian - he's not really doing very well is he!
I actuallyhave a fair amount of sympathy for Farron. Once the media-hacks smelt blood they weren't going to rest until they got it; constantly badgering him for a comment on this regardless of what he actually wanted to say on any other topic.
It was a shame that he wasn't able to give his personal (religious) opinion and point his critics in the direction of his voting record..... https://www.theyworkforyou.com/mp/11923/tim_farron/westmorland_and_lonsdale/votes
He always struck me as being insufficiently duplicitous or hard-faced to suceed as a party leader.
//lying makes him an unfit politician//

Looking at our current batch of politicians i thought that was the number one prerequisite!

otherwie I pretty much agree with what you said at 11:24
Interesting to note that those notable followers of the Islamic faith are never pressurised into giving their religious opinions on homosexuality.
i don't really care. What somebdy says about gay sex wont alter the fact that i'll probably never do it again
Well done, AOG.
34 posts to crowbar Islam into a thread.......

bednobs - naughty! :o)
Jack - // It was a shame that he wasn't able to give his personal (religious) opinion and point his critics in the direction of his voting record..... //

He did give his personal religious opinion, and that is where he fell down, because he lied in order to appear more liberal (no pun intended) than he is as a fervent Christian.

As I pointed out, he managed to betray his principles as a politician and as a Christian, so I have no sympathy for him whatsoever.

He was not compelled to lie about his faith, he could have refused the question as a private matter - it's never an issue for any other politicians it seems.
Naomi...the point that I am making is that Farron is just another MP, whose Party failed. His opinion of the issue of the fair treatment of gay people really isn't of any importance in the scale of things. He isn't in any position to change anything, one way or another.......just like Farage in fact.

AOG, it's wonderful that you recognise that their opinions may vary and can't be taken as read ...
