When I had my son my friends gave me baby clothes and soft toys. I did the same when they had theirs.
As a new mum all you want is some sleep, time to shower, and maybe someone to do the housework now and then.

We bought a friend who recently became a mother a food hamper - all designed to be breast feeding friendly - it meant that the food could just be dumped in the micro

So not necessarily to get away from baby, but to help her feel better about herself, you know weight gain, tiredness etc.

Earplugs could be dangerous around a baby, a choking risk, so noise cancelling headphones might be better. :)
