Ulysses author is Joyce so it looks ok.
Joice sounds like Joyce (author of Ulysses and Finnegans Wake) + in his own words = recited from his own works

I think words fits better with verse

Ecclesiastes 3.22 says "............that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion........."
Then that is better, go with works.
