Four fifths of the grid solved and we have the central area. Some work to do yet, and we are absolutely not fans of folding.

It was a fun endgame, shame it is not festive (again), but I did enjoy it. Happy Xmas all Listener ABers.
I think I have this all done now - not as hard as I feared. Took some time sorting the across extras, but it all works out. Manyy thanks Zero for a challenging but fun workout - and Merry Xmas to fellow solvers!
Delighted to see a rare Zero puzzle. Great fun, and I have just spent a head scratching half hour cracking 3d and 20a. Not a fan of folding though.
Hi John. Yes, a rarity, and all the more welcome for that. I think you test solved one of Zero's first puzzles way back didn't you? He very kindly did the same for my first effort and was an incredibly helpful influence. I've very much enjoyed this one, almost there with just the folding to look forward to. A happy festive season to all and all the best for 2018.
Hello John. Yes, I test solved a few but not sure that I was much help since I am only a B List solver! I hardly contribute here these days but felt obliged to comment on Brian's excellent puzzle.

By the way, I've acquired a few more Dylan MP3s if you're interested. Oh, and this week's Inquisitor is a bit of a ***!
I'm surprised to see so few comments. Perhaps people are too busy wrapping seasonal gifts.

I thought it was an original and very enjoyable puzzle with some first-class clues. We really have been treated to a bit of a clue fest in the last couple of months.
Fortunately the folding was straightforward. I still have nightmares about that bird a few years back.
Happy Christmas to all fellow ABers.
A nice mathematical twist at the end and a personal connection with the song.
Really nice puzzle - thanks, Zero. I thought the way everything came together was very neat and, as Scorpius has observed, some very good clues.

Happy Christmas to all.
Nice and tidy (the puzzle rather than my hamfisted origamic efforts) and plenty of tough clues too - very enjoyable indeed - thanks Zero.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all the other denizens of this rather abstruse corner of AB [ which was my initial reason for registering for the site all those years ago - it has much to answer for ... ]

A well defined puzzle. Difficult clues throughout which produced quite a challenge especially as I was expecting an easier Xmas puzzle to draw more customers in.

Merry Xmas and a prosperous 2018 to all who read these threads.

I'm a bit late to this but while I have completed grid, folding and the symbols, 16d (Treat rat badly: he keeps changing his account (8, two words)) has me stumped. My grid gives me ?AT?S?RT. Thanks in advance for any hints to put me out of my misery!
To Piffleworthy - this forum does not discuss clues or give hints.

By the way you have made a mistake in 26a.
My apologies - unintentional mistake. Thank you.
piffleworthy - no problem, and if you do need a hint, feel free to email me on olichant08 at gmail dot com.

I've just realised that there's a part of this puzzle that I don't really understand, but having tried to sort it all out, my head just hurts. I'll be reading the solution with interest.
This is the one time of year when I would have welcomed an easy puzzle, but these were excellent clues which made for a challenging and enjoyable gridfill. I'm not a fan of folding either and I'll confess that I've been far less rigorous than usual in making sure that I've got the final stages right.

I hope that all contributors had a very enjoyable Christmas.
