Some ahole has pinched one of the rear reflectors from the bumper of my car. Now, they're cheap enough to replace, but I was wondering how you work out if you need left or right.
As I'm looking at the back of the car, it's the left hand reflector, so is that what I order? Or, are you supposed to look from the front and order a right hand one?

I would think from the rear (as you look at it)
Left
Probably best if you ask for one for the nearside.
order left hand rear reflector and wish a load of karma to arrive at the thief's door.
You look from the back ie, like sitting in the driver's seat.

When you buy insurance they ask if your car is right-hand or left-hand drive - most British cars are right-hand drive. The right side is the offside.
Are they not both the same?
Not left or right, Rocky, nearside and offside, nearside being the one nearest the kerb and offside the one where the driver sits.

Ebay and amazon only ask for left or right, not near/offside.

"Are they not both the same?"
My first thought to this was 'no' as the reflector curves into the bumper, but looking at the other side, it looks like you would just need to rotate it to fit. The only problem to this is that the fitting holes are a different size, so not sure that it would work.
That's because left and right are definitive, offside/nearside varies as to which country the car was built for.

Not in this case. Lol.
What car is it rocky?
It is known as the nearside

Maybe better trying a local motor factor or somebody like Euro Car Parts.
At least then you're sure they know what you're asking for even if it costs 15p more.
If they are cheap buy both, you might have a spare the next time somebody steals one.

I did look on the Europarts website. They're £13.99 each as opposed to £5.99 each. I don't mind paying the extra but wanted to get it ordered. Begs the question, if they're that cheap, why you'd risk getting caught pinching them!
Same as turning signal?
Check your local scrap yard.
