hello i have a dvd with an xmas home movie on its played every year for the last 10 years no my laptop and sony dvd player will not recognize it, any clues please the dics is in pristine condition

Optical discs, particularly homemade ones, can degenerate with age, so it's a good idea to make copies of any important discs that you have. It's a bit late to tell you that and all I can suggest is that you give the disc a good clean and try again. I realise you've tried it on 2 different machines but you can't lose by trying it on any other machines you can lay your hands on. If you do manage to read it on a computer MAKE A COPY. NO, MAKE 2 COPIES.

will do bgh. its on a verbatim disc as many of my video copies on to dvd and back up of photos are and all others play ok i've just tried 6 of them, im going to friends later to try on theirs this is of great value to me for personal reasons,such a shame if its gone

"g" (dvd)the directory name is invalid it say on laptop and even though it plays others ok .i uninstalled the dvd player in device manager reinstalled but "nothing ?

ok i installed an old nero 7 premium cd i had years ago and the video will play through nero showtime,funnily enough,now i have to try to copy this to a usb through nero,i'll plough on.....
